There are 4 new cases of COVID-19 to report today in NZ. There are no new cases reported in the community.
Two cases, who are part of the same bubble, arrived on December 9 from the Czech Republic via Germany and Singapore. Both of the cases are family members. They tested positive at around day 3 and are now in Christchurch’s quarantine facility.
Two other cases who also travelled together arrived on December 10 from the United States. Both of these cases tested positive at around day 3. They were transferred to a quarantine facility in Christchurch.
The Air New Zealand aircrew member who tested positive for COVID-19 has now received finalised results of genome sequencing. The lineage does not match any genomes previously sequences in New Zealand. However, the same genome lineage was reported in the United States. The aircrew member flew from the United States when they became positive.
Three aircrew members who were close contacts of the aircrew member who tested positive have returned negative day 5 test results. A fourth person who was reported as a casual contact was transferred top Auckland’s quarantine facility as a precaution after developing COVID-19 related symptom. This person, however so far has returned negative test results, but, will remain in the quarantine facility.
Seven previously reported cases of COVID-19 have now recovered. The total number of active COVID-19 cases is now at 43.
The total confirmed COVID-19 cases are now at 1,744. This is the number that the Ministry of Health reports to the World Health Organisation.
There is no one in the hospital with COVID-19 in New Zealand.
The total number of tests that have been completed to date is 1,352,462.
There are now 2,409,300 users registered on NZ COVID Tracer app.
The app has recorded a total of 139,351,943 poster scans. There have also been 5,614,164 manual diary entries recorded so far.
