The Ministry of Health has revealed, alongside Air New Zealand that a staff member has been detected as COVID-19 positive.
The staff member was tested positive during a routine screening in China and further test samples were processed rapidly in NZ’s Auckland laboratory, these tests have returned as a positive result.
The outcome of this positive result means the Ministry of Health is classing it as a confirmed case, and it will be reported in tomorrows numbers.
An investigation is also underway to find the source, swabs have been sent to ESR in Wellington for genome sequencing which is aimed to be done as soon as possible.
This staff member has had 7 close contacts and 6 casual contacts from the flight, who all arrived in New Zealand this morning and were all tested on arrival.
So far test results on some of the 11 close contacts, have all returned negative. All of the close contacts are currently in self-isolation or in managed isolation facilities while they await their further testing and results for the next 14d period.
The Ministry of Health sent a push notification to users of the COVID Trace app who scanned into Animates Manakau on Saturday 21 November between 1:22 pm and 2:11 pm. The Ministry recorded fewer than ten people who scanned into the business at that time.
Locations of interest are currently being investigated and they will be updated on the Auckland Regional Public Health Service website.
