A Capitol Police Officer who worked for the Washington, DC, police killed himself following riots on January 6.

The Officer, Jefferey Smith, is one of the two cops to kill themselves after the riots.  Capitol Police Officer Howard Leibengood also committed suicide after the insurrection.

One officer named Brian Sicknick who was also part of the Capitol Police force died after being beaten by protestors as they attempted to break into the building.

The announcement of Officer Smith died was made by Acting Chief Robert J. Contee III in a closed session of the House Appropriations Committee.

“We honour the service and sacrifices of Officers Brian Sicknick, Howard Liebengood, and Jeffery Smith, and offer condolences to all the grieving families. Sixty-five MPD members sustained injuries documented in injury reports,” he said.
