Reports on Monday morning indicate that the Bluebridge and Interislander ferries were evacuated over an alleged bomb threat in Picton.
All passengers on board were disembarked until a search was later carried out.
“Police are investigating, and as a precaution, specialist search group staff will be searching both the Interislander and Bluebridge ferries currently berthed in Picton,” Marlborough Area Commander Inspector Simon Feltham said to thisquality.
“Police continue to liaise closely with both the Interislander and Bluebridge as we work to resolve this matter.”
thisquality understands that ‘nothing of significance' was located while the search was carried out.
A third Bluebridge ferry that was en-route to Picton had been allowed to dock once the other vessels left to head to Wellington.
Authorities are working to establish the identity of the person responsible for making the threat.
