Cambridge Police initiated a search for 79-year-old Julie Guest. They had been searching the Leamington area for her.
She went missing from her Leamington address on Thursday afternoon, and initially, her family and Police had ‘grave concerns' for her well-being.
Julie was last wearing a blue jersey, black pants and black sneakers with a distinctive white trim — leaving her home on foot.
LandSar volunteers and Fire and Emergency NZ personnel assisted with the search, including at the Waikato River.
At around 3pm on Friday afternoon, a statement was released confirming a body believed to be Julie was located. Formal identification is yet to take place.
“Her family has been advised, and our thoughts are with them at this difficult time. Police would like to thank the LandSAR volunteers and Fire and Emergency NZ personnel who provided assistance,” a statement said.
Enquiries will continue to be made. The death will be referred to the Coroner.
A finding in relation to her death will be released in due course.
