After fleeing from Police, a vehicle ended up becoming lodged in a high stacking of crates 10 meters above ground at a Hastings orchard.
The crash occurred at around 12:30 am on Kenilworth Road, Mayfair, on Sunday.
Reports indicated that the vehicle failed to stop for authorities and started driving on the wrong side of Karamu Road before hitting railway lines. The vehicle went airborne over a fence into a stack of fruit crates.
Kristy Hall, who filmed the incident, said to thisquality that she was thankful for the emergency service workers who acted quickly to the incident.
“I was completely shocked and couldn’t believe what I was looking at; once I fully took it all in, I had an overwhelming fear that the occupant(s) may have been killed,” she said.
“The driver is so lucky to be alive, and the emergency service workers did an amazing job.”
The sole occupant of the vehicle sustained serious injuries and was transported to Hawke’s Bay Hospital.
Two Fire and Emergency trucks attended, including the Serious Crash Unit.
Police are investigating the circumstances of the crash.
