On Monday morning (28/10/19) at 11:38 am via radio tracker signal fire crew (incl. crew from Otaki & many other local firehouse reps) police and ambulances were called to the scene to take control as pool staff couldn’t breathe properly due to a chemical mix/reaction — It was believed to be a malfunction with a mix of chemicals via a faulty pump.
Surrounding members of the public were told to keep away from the area while drivers were diverted by traffic control.
Police were cordoned to divert traffic as far as possible away from the scene by closing off all street access while telling people in surrounding homes to stay inside, close all windows & doors for their safety of the resulting chemical spill.
Police cut off the following streets: Queen St, Salisbury St, Bath St
Members of the public were told to turn around & not go past the roadblocks for their safety. sammieplays.com understands that one was taken to hospital for precautions while 32 others were in the pool at the time of the event; they were treated on-site by St John Ambulance.
