Tuesday morning, Police responded to calls of a chemical spill of an unknown substance on State Highway 29 in the Lower Kaimai Ranges.
Emergency services were notified and responded to the spillage at around 6.15am between Rapurapu Kauri Track and Kaimai Mamaku Lookout.
A number of containers containing the unknown substance fell off a truck, which has blocked the westbound lane about 500 metres south of the summit.
Fire and Emergency crews are in attendance to remove the mess and containers. Unfortunately, the road is believed to not reopen for quite some time.
Motorists planning to travel through are expected to experience significant delays as diversions are set up.
