Three samples from a northern China ice cream company came back as positive for COVID-19.

Around 4,836 boxes are believed to be contaminated officials say. Over half of the boxes were already distributed for sale following the positive results.

2,089 boxes could only be retrieved in time according to a report.

Tianjin Daqiaodao Food Company fell victim to the positive ice cream.

1,662 employees were tested on Thursday. They have since been quarantining.

It was likely that an infected worker contaminated the batches.

Officials added that the milk powder ingredients come from New Zealand and Ukraine.
