Colorado Governor Jared Polis has confirmed that there is a UK COVID-19 variant spreading in the United States.
In a statement, it confirms that health officials did find the first case of COVID-19 variant B.1.1.7, which is the same as discovered in the United Kingdom.
“Today we discovered Colorado’s first case of the COVID-19 variant B.1.1.7, the same variant discovered in the UK,” Polis said.
The Center for Disease Control (CDC) confirmed the case after laboratory tests were conducted from a male in his 20s.
The male is currently in isolation in Elbert County and has had no travel history. It is unknown how the man had gotten the new variant.
It was reported that he has had no close contacts identified as of yet and that health officials are working through to identify if there are other potential cases and contacts through contact tracing.
