Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern announced in a 9 pm press briefing that Auckland will move to Alert Level 3 while the rest of New Zealand will move to Alert Level 2 following a new COVID-19 Community Case identified in South Auckland.
The lockdown changes will come into effect for the next seven days, starting at 6 am on Sunday morning.
Interviews have been underway throughout the afternoon to establish how the case become infected with the virus. It is the 13th case connected to Auckland's February cluster.
Genomic sequencing is in the process where returning results will tell Health Officials if the case is linked to the cluster outbreak, this is because COVID-19 test results returned negative three times. The case is being classed as asymptomatic.
