Thousands have reportedly felt a 4.6 magnitude earthquake that struck just off the coast of Paraparaumu. It occurred at 3.51am on Thursday.
GeoNet reports the quake struck 30km west of Paraparaumu.
Shaking was reported to be at an intensity of light and 33km deep.
Over 5,900 reports were submitted in response to the shake with most being in the surrounding lower North Island — from the Wellington region and up to Whanganui.
