Police this morning confirmed a person died following a truck crash on State Highway 1, between Invercargill and Bluff in Southland.
Emergency services received reports of the crash on the Bluff Highway in Greenhills shortly before 3.30am.
Reports indicated the truck rolled and caught fire.
State Highway 1 is closed between Motu Rimu Road and Omaui Road. The road is expected to be closed for some time today.
Motorists are advised to delay travel where possible. This is due to no available alternative routes.
