Reported earlier on Friday afternoon Police confirmed one person had died after a two-vehicle crash in Otago.
Emergency services were notified of the crash shortly after 12.20pm on East Taieri-Allanton Road.
Injuries of other people possibly involved were not reported.
Motorists at the time were asked to avoid the area due to road closure.
The road did not reopen all afternoon and remained closed throughout the evening until around 10pm.
In a media statement sent at 10.15pm Police said the circumstances of the crash will continue to be investigated.
“Police thank motorists for their patience while emergency services worked at the scene,” a statement said.
