The government today announced a new website My Covid Record in collaboration with the Ministry of Health. It is a database that records proof a person has received a Covid-19 vaccination.
This is one of the first steps where vaccination certificates will be used in Aotearoa New Zealand and inspires a return to normality again as economies locally and globally begin to reopen.
My Covid Record, starting in late October, will provide access to records of Covid-19 test results for a person whether positive or negative. Late November access to vaccination certificates will be available to use in New Zealand and around the world.
“We’re listening to whānau, communities and business who want to see a return to a more normal life as soon as possible. My Covid Record is one of the tools we’re putting in place to help enable us to open up New Zealand,” Ministry of Health Group Manager Michael Dreyer said to thisquality in a statement.
“Thanks to the hard work of New Zealanders, we have over 80% of the eligible population vaccinated with their first dose, which gives us more options for the future.”
“Being fully vaccinated will help us have a classic Kiwi summer. To make that happen, we’re making it as easy as possible for people to prove they’ve been vaccinated.”
When and where proof will be required is still being finalised and the government is consulting with businesses, the hospitality industry and event organisers about how it will work.
The Ministry of Health will send messages to New Zealanders, letting them know they can sign up in the coming weeks and members of the public and those who are vaccinated can register by creating an account on the website.
Those who have received their vaccinations so far will be notified to sign up first.
“So far, the Ministry has had positive feedback that the website is very easy to use. However, for those who don’t have internet access or require alternative accessible options, we will be providing alternative solutions,” MoH Group Manager Michael Dreyer said.
“Everyone who is eligible and has not yet booked their vaccination appointments is encouraged to do so and receive their first dose by the end of this month. This will ensure you’re fully vaccinated for when My Covid Record will be able to display vaccination certificates at the end of November.”
