Helicopter called after serious crash prompts emergency services to respond on Tokanui-Gorge Road Highway in Southland

A serious crash has prompted emergency services to respond in Southland, Saturday afternoon.

The crash was reported on the okanui-Gorge Road Highway between Fleming Road and Chisholm Road at around 12.05pm.

It is understood two vehicles were involved in the incident.

Five people sustained serious injuries as a result.

A helicopter was called to the scene to transport them to hospital.

Diversions were in place at Fleming Road and Mataura island-Fortrose Road.
