Police said they were notified of reports that a person went missing and was feared they drowned in the water at around 7:35 pm on Friday in Central Otago.
A local search and rescue team was called in to search for the person in murky water at Pinders Pond.
A rescue helicopter was sent to the scene while fire crews and ambulance assisted.
The Police National Dive Squad was later stood down.
At around 9:25 pm they located and recovered a body.
