Magnitude 4.9 earthquake shakes lower South Island

GeoNet reported a magnitude 4.9 earthquake that shook the lower South Island and surrounding areas on Thursday evening at 8.07 pm.

The quake occurred at a depth of 9 km and struck about 45 km southwest of Haast on the West Coast.

With few reports, being a ‘light' shake. Around 400 only submitted a form saying they felt it.

The shake was first reported as 4.6 but was later revised to a 4.9.
