A 33-year-old man was arrested related to a firearms incident in Motueka on Tuesday.
A traffic stop was set up on State Highway 1 to catch the man. He was apprehended safely without any problems near Woodend, north of Christchurch.
The man was wanted on warrants to arrest while authorities had deemed him a person of interest following the firearms incident.
Nelson Bays Area Commander Inspector Paul Borrell said support was appreciated with locals' assistance in the Motueka and wider Nelson Bays community.
“We very much appreciate the support and assistance from the Motueka and wider Nelson Bays communities,” he said.
“We are very aware of the concern that such incidents cause. We also thank Canterbury Police for their support and assistance in helping to safely facilitate this arrest.”
Enquiries are underway in relation to the incident; however, they are still being completed.
Police will provide an update when charges are laid.
