Police say they have arrested a 20-year-old Kawerau man in the Bay of Plenty today and charged him with murder.
The man will be appearing at Whakatane District Court Monday morning.
He was charged with murder and an unrelated assault.
The victim was a woman found by emergency services who were called to an address on Hall Street, Kawerau at around 12.40pm on Saturday.
The woman sustained critical injuries but sadly died shortly after.
She will not be named until her extended family is advised of the death.
