Footage sent to thisquality shows a Metlink bus driving southbound in the northbound lane on Wellington's Centennial Highway (State Highway 1), Monday afternoon.
The bus travelled the wrong way down the highway and came to a stop at around 1.30pm near Tyres Road at the bottom of Ngauranga Gorge.
Police were in attendance after it came to a stop, stalling traffic in all northbound lanes.
“Motorists are asked to take extra care, and if possible avoid travelling [on SH1],” a Police spokesperson said to thisquality.
“There are no reported injuries, or significant damage reported at this stage.”
Shortly before 2pm the scene was cleared.
An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
