Four people have died following a serious crash on State Highway 1 south of Levin.
The crash occurred near Kuku East Road, involving a truck and van just after 3pm on Tuesday afternoon.
The Serious Crash Unit arrived at the scene at around 4pm to investigate.
Motorists had been advised to expect significant delays in the evening, as Police worked to reopen at least one lane of the road to reduce congestion. The northbound lane of the road reopened shortly after 7.45pm.
Police released a statement the following day surrounding the incident.

“Police are making enquiries to identify the individuals involved and have contacted their next of kin,” a statement from Police said.
“Our thoughts are with them at this time.”
Police would like to hear any information from witnesses in the area and from those traveling that might have dashcam footage, which could help assist with enquiries.
