Dunedin-based alternative rock band Saurian is set to release their fifth studio single, Ice Cream Man, on February 18. Featuring guitarist and vocalist Karl Brinsdon, drummer Hamish Daniell, guitarist Cameron Ellis and bassist Sol Wyatt.
The single was conceived in an electrifying moment of spontaneity during a gig in September of 2020. The audience passionately demanded encore after encore until the band exhausted their repertoire. A spark went off.
Suddenly, the band exploded into an aggressive chaotic jam, consisting of barked vocals with improvised lyrics by bassist Wyatt, an infectious call-and-response hook, dissonant chords, thunderous drums that shake your core and a sense of playful absurdity.

Ice Cream Man has become an instant fan favorite inciting calls for an encore. It has since become a setlist staple.
The new single was recorded and produced in the home studio of the band's frontman, Brinsdon, staying true to a classic Kiwi do it yourself ethic. It will be available on all popular music streaming services, including Spotify, Apple Music and Tidal.
In August 2015, the band was formed during a jam session, and later moved on to form its own distinctive sound. Suggestions for names such as reptiles or lizards were thought of, then one search came across with Saurian meaning lizard-like.
Their music appeals to a wide audience, following musical influences through the 60s until present. Some musical influences include Nirvana, The Beatles, Foo Fighters, Guns and Roses, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Soundgarden.
Band members channel their passion and energy into their song-writing. They create songs in styles from soft rock through to metal, and take pride in diversity.
Ice Cream Man can be pre-saved on Spotify and Apple Music.
