The Ministry of Health advised thisquality on Saturday evening that a worker at a Perth managed isolation facility in Australia tested positive, raising precautionary concerns for New Zealand returnees.
The worker tested positive as part of routine surveillance testing. Two housemates of the positive case also tested positive.
A public health assessment was rapidly assessed for New Zealand, according to the Ministry. Direct flights between Western Australia and New Zealand were immediately paused until further notice.
Further assessment will be undertaken to include any information that Australian health officials provide.
Arrivals who have recently come into New Zealand that have been to any locations of interest are being asked to self-isolate immediately and call Healthline in the morning.
