New Zealand will move to Alert Level 4 from 11.59pm tonight for three days, while Auckland and the Coromandel Peninsula will go into Level 4 for seven days.

This follows a Covid-19 case being identified in Auckland's community earlier on Tuesday afternoon.

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern made the announcement at a press conference this evening.

The identified case is a 58-year-old man becoming infectious on August 12 and is from Devonport. Indications revealed there is no link between him and the border.

People can leave to do exercise, go to supermarkets to get essential items or a Covid-19 test — keeping a distance from others is strongly advised if going out.

Vaccinations as part of New Zealand's rollout to fight against the virus will be suspended for at least 48 hours.
