On Thursday, members of the public said on social media that they’d heard on the radio about a confirmed case of Coronavirus in Otaki. Also, other members of the people were speaking unconfirmed “facts” that it had started at one of the local Primary schools & some children had been taken out of school to be put into isolation; this is false.

The Otaki Medical Center confirmed on Thursday that as of the 19th of March, there are no confirmed or suspected cases at all in Otaki, nor is anyone self-isolating at this time.

“Otaki Medical Centre is in the same position as everyone else. Therefore, to assist us to continue to deliver to the community, please do not come here in person unless you have an appointment (booked over the phone)”

This does not mean if you have any symptoms, you shouldn’t go in person to the Otaki Medical Center without notifying first over the phone. Because this can make the whole situation worse for others around you in the community and could spread the Coronavirus if you suspect you have symptoms.

“If you are unwell, call first. If you are concerned about the Coronavirus, call Healthline on 0800 358 5453. They’ll tell you what to do in steps.”
