Police report shortly after 10.30am a person that previously tested positive for the Covid-19 virus and is infectious had escaped a managed isolation facility in Auckland.
A man was reported to be on the loose for about three hours after escaping the Novotel facility in Ellerslie.
An Ōtāhuhu address was cordoned off to allow for authorities to prepare an arrest of the individual. The individual was then taken into custody.
Staff who responded to the incident followed all health guidelines and were dressed in full PPE gear. This is in accordance with Police Covid-19 procedures.
An update provided to thisquality from a Police spokesperson says: “The man has been charged under the Health Order with failing to comply with the order (Covid-19) and he has appeared in the Auckland District Court via a contactless video link this afternoon.”
A judge bailed him to return to a managed quarantine facility.
The family of the man were extremely cooperative with Police and thanked them for it.
The Ministry of Health provided further details to Police surrounding the person's movements since they left the facility.
