Police this morning announced they charged a 42-year-old man after yesterday’s Dunedin supermarket stabbings.

The man was taken to Dunedin hospital to receive medical attention last night, later being transferred to Dunedin Central Police Station.

He is due to appear in Dunedin’s District Court today on four counts of attempted murder.

Five people were admitted to the hospital in a serious condition, three to the Intensive Care Unit and one to the general ward. Another person was treated in the emergency department.

Three are now described to be in a serious but stable condition while the fourth is in moderate condition.

Enquiries at the scene will resume this morning.

Anyone who has information, including video footage of the incident, is being urged to get in touch with Police via 105 and quote file number 210510/8009.
