Police are continuing efforts to find any information that can help them solve the unexplained death of a woman that happened on Sunday at around 3:20 am on a Smedley Street address, Manurewa.

Police were alerted on Sunday morning to a woman who was assaulted, she died at the scene.

A man was further arrested a short time after. A scene examination took place, and the investigation continues says Counties Manakau Police.

Detective Senior Sergeant Albie Alexander, Counties Manukau CIB, says a post mortem examination is expected to be completed today.

“Police carried out scene examinations at two addresses yesterday on Smedley Street and Hobman Place,” says Detective Senior Sergeant Alexander.

Police have also been speaking with people that may have witnessed what happened as part of further Police enquiries.

Detective Senior Sergeant Alexander says Police have since charged a man who was arrested nearby on Hobman Place on Sunday morning.

The 45-year-old has been charged with relation to the assault and is due to appear in the Manukau District Court today.

“However, our investigation is still ongoing, and for that reason, Police cannot rule out further charges being laid at this stage,” says Detective Senior Sergeant Alexander.
