Police in Northland responded to a serious incident, located in Tangowahine which is north of Dargaville, in the Kaipara district.

Police were called to the scene at around 9:17 when a member of the public reported a suspicious person on Tangowahine Valley Road — Police responded to the job.

There was very little communication Police reported while responding to the job.

District Commander for Northland Tony Hill says Police are trying to work out and establish what exactly happened — one Police dog was shot, the suspect was shot after shooting the dog.

“We can confirm that a police dog has been shot, and a man who has shot the dog has been shot by Police,” says Tony Hill.

“We are in the very early stages of establishing what exactly has happened but an update will be provided as soon as one becomes available.”
