Police have identified a man's body that was found at Muriwai Beach.

The man identified Lianpeng Liang, aged 43, from Mt Roskill went missing after falling into the water while fishing on October 5, near Kauwahaia Island.

The man's body was recovered on Auckland's Muriwai Beach after it was spotted by a member of the public walking a nearby track. 

Emergency services were called to the beach.

Police Eagle helicopter spotted the body wedged between rocks on the waterline, in rough water and terrain.

His death will be referred to the Coroner.

Police's thoughts and sympathies are with his family.
