Police this evening recovered a car that was driven into the water on Meeanee Quay in Napier.

Evidence shows the car was stolen and driven into the water deliberately.

The  Police National Dive Squad undertook a search of the area where the car was, the Police said they were satisfied that nobody was in the car after it was submerged in the water.

When the Police National Dive Squad were searching for the first car, they discovered a second car. Police believe that this second car was also driven into the water at the same time as the first car.

Work to retrieve the second car will take place tomorrow.
