Residents were evacuated on a street in North Shore, Auckland, after reports indicate that an item of interest was found at a residential address.

Armed Offenders Squad members assisted Police in executing a search warrant. While at the address, a suspicious item was identified.

A section of Sunrise Avenue in Murrays Bay was closed off to the public with cordons.

The road was closed between Wisteria Way and East Coast Road until the item could be removed safely.

An alert was issued by Auckland Transport shortly after 7am.

Motorists were told to delay their journeys or expect delays in the area.
