Police are investigating after a high-speed crash occurred on Auckland's North Western Motorway last night.

The incident happened at around 8.25pm, involving a white 2011 Mercedes Benz E63 with registration number SOBADD. The vehicle was heading northwest on State Highway 16 between Lincoln Road's on-ramp and the Hobsonville Road off-ramp.

It took the Hobsonville Road off-ramp at high speeds, which resulted in a crash where the vehicle spin 360 degrees and then collided with a traffic light pole at the intersection of Hobsonville Road. Damages to the rear end of the white sedan were extensive.

The driver of the sedan escaped injury as a result of the crash, but other occupants inside took off from the scene on foot down Hobsonville Road towards the Westgate Shopping Centre.

Tow services took the vehicle away from the scene as a result of extensive damages.

A busy amount of traffic was in the area at the time. Police are urging anyone who witnessed the impact or high-speed driving beforehand to get in touch.
