Flames engulfed Ponsonby Intermediate School during the afternoon in Auckland.
The large fire, which started in a computer room, broke out at around 4:30 pm on Tuesday.
Emergency services rushed to the scene, including Police.
Fire and Emergency sent eight trucks to put the fire out as quickly as possible, to stop it from spreading.
Large plumes of dark grey smoke had come from the middle of the school inside a building — loud bangs could be heard as the fire enraged.
The fire closed Clarence St between Jervois Rd and Pompallier Tce, Ponsonby.
