The Ministry of Health says a case under investigation, after returning a weak positive result from a test in Whangārei earlier in the week, tested positive for the virus yesterday in Auckland.
The first test which returned a weak positive result indicated they were asymptomatic for the virus, before the second had returned positive.
Interviews with the case are underway to determine possible close contacts. The case was transferred to an Auckland quarantine facility.
Locations of interest in Auckland and Northland will be posted to the Ministry of Health website as they become available. Further updates will be provided to press when possible following this development.
Northland DHB is stepping up its screening at Northland hospitals for visitors and patients, and arranging additional testing.
Anyone with symptoms in the Auckland and Northland areas should be tested. Additionally, the DHB encourages people to get vaccinated at their general practice, pharmacy, Mâori health provider or DHB clinics.
