Rescue team locate crashed overdue Helicopter in Otago

JUST IN: Police say rescue teams have been working at the scene of a helicopter that crashed in Otago Thursday morning.

The helicopter was reported as overdue at around 5.30am. A search operation was undertaken, led by New Zealand's Rescue Coordination Centre.

At around 7.30am rescue members found the helicopter crashed at Deep Creek, 33 miles west of Dunedin.

The pilot was confirmed deceased at the scene. No one else was involved.

Transport Accident Investigation Commission (TAIC) is leading an investigation in relation to the crash, and the Police will provide additional assistance as required.
