A search and rescue operation was initiated on the evening of May 23 to locate a rafter reported as missing on the Ahaura River, inland from Greymouth.
Police reported yesterday afternoon that a search and rescue Helicopter located the body of the man that was reported as missing.
The man reportedly fell into the Ahaura River at an area that is known as the Griffin Flat, which is 25km east of Ahaura.
The body was found at around 4pm at around 20km downstream of the Griffin Flat.
“Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this incredibly sad time,” Police said in a statement.
“Police would like to thank all those involved in the search, including search and rescue volunteers, local jet boat pilots and Ahaura Helicopters.”
The man's death will be reported to the Coroner.
