A search and rescue operation is underway after Police released a statement saying that a rafter had been reported as missing on the Ahaura River, inland from Greymouth, yesterday evening.
At around 5.30pm a mad had reportedly fallen from a raft into the river at around noon.
Communication issues meant that the issue could not be raised earlier.
A search operation started at around 7am this morning which is involving Police, LandSAR and volunteers.
Around seventeen people are assisting with the search and rescue operation to locate the rafter.
Three field teams are searching the riverbanks in the area while a jet boat has been launched to search the river. A Helicopter conducted an aerial search.
Police National Dive Squad teams were sent to help assist.
