A South Auckland car yard in the suburb of Papakura can be seen engulfed in flames as fire crews work to extinguish it on Sunday afternoon.
Emergency services responded to the fire on Parker Street at around 3.10pm.
Large plumes of black smoke clouds can be seen rising above the surrounding area.
Burning cars and buildings have spread the fire at least 100m by 80m.
People were asked to avoid the area as the smoke can be dangerous to inhale.
Around twenty-one fire truck units were at the scene.
Police report cordons in place at Calvert Street and Hunua Road, Boundary Road and Hunua Road and the Boundary Road train tracks (near Otuwairoa Stream).
The roads were expected to be closed for some time and motorists were asked to avoid the area.
