Three Fire and Emergency units, one command and a hazardous substance unit responded to reports of a suspicious parcel delivered to the Beehive in Wellington on Monday morning.
The emergency units arrived at the Museum Street entrance at Parliament House shortly after 10.25am.
The parcel was delivered to level eight of the Beehive, the floor below Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern's office.
It is believed a white powder substance was contained in the parcel.
Areas surrounding the Beehive were isolated as a precautionary approach and was cleared just after midday.
The material was found to be harmless and there was no risk to anyone involved.
