Labour MP for Ōtaki, Terisa Ngobi, said on Sept 24 (2020) at an Election meeting that the Ōtaki to North of Levin (O2NL) Highway build will not happen until 2025.
National's Tim Costley said the road needs to be built to save lives and get the region moving.
A suggestion was made to make the process not go through a complete RMA (Resource Management Act review).
The current road, State Highway 1, faces many rush-hour delays, holiday traffic and occasional crashes causing gridlocks.
However, Ngobi raised concerns over cones still laid out from the previous Government regarding the Kāpiti Expressway.
Labour was reportedly locked into a PPP long-term contract for delivery.
The O2NL project has not been cancelled but is sitting in a process of decision making before construction is likely to start, according to Ngobi.
