As the wet winter weather pours in, Wellington City seems to be the city of gloomy, windy and wet weather. It’s a typical day for Wellingtonians.

During the busy 4 pm peak of off-work hour traffic, surface flooding arose on the State Highway network for the afternoon in and around Wellington’s CBD.

NZTA Wgtn (New Zealand Transport Agency – Wellington) issued a statement to travellers.

“Take extra care especially if travelling on SH1 Urban Motorway, Ngauranga Gorge & SH2 Petone.”

At around 5:15 pm NZTA Wgtn said rain continued to fall & they also mentioned that this would be the heaviest evening peak for the year with traffic.

Northbound traffic was congested on SH1 from Wellington Airport to the Ngauranga Gorge.

“Take extra care, watch your following distances & expect significant delays during this evening peak,” said NZTA Wgtn in a release.
