According to GeoNet, a magnitude 3.2 earthquake shook Christchurch and surrounding areas on Monday night at 5:52 pm.
The earthquake was 8 km deep and struck about 10 km south-east of Christchurch,
From the epicentre, the shake was reported to be felt across the whole city.
Over 2700 people reported feeling the earthquake as of 6:54 pm.
GeoNet wrote in a tweet: “A shaky end to Easter weekend for those in Christchurch with a M3.2 earthquake occurring 10km south-east of the city. It caused light shaking and we have received 2500+ reports.”
