Three cars crashed into each other at around 4:35 pm on SH1 (State Highway 1) Paekākāriki on the northbound lane.
Traffic is backed up along the Centennial Highway and up to Pukerua Bay. Cars coming up to Pukerua Bay in the northbound lane are at a standstill since STOP/GO traffic management was in place at around 5:05 pm. Southbound lane traffic is also moving slowly.
Police vehicles are parked on the left side of the northbound lane just after Fishermans Table. There are three cars that were involved in the crash. The first car has been hit hard in the back end while the other two have bumped each other.
NZTA (New Zealand Traffic Agency) is advising people to delay their journey if possible while the scene gets cleaned up.
Due to a #crash, SH1 Paekākāriki remains under STOP/GO temporary traffic control near Beach Rd. Please continue to delay your journey as northbound queues remain sitting south of Airlie Rd. ^EH pic.twitter.com/EhRLAyyyEk
