Hawke's Bay Police have today charged two people in relation to a serious assault of a 4-year-old boy.
The boy was found critically injured at a property in Flaxmere on January 29 — later recovering remarkably but sustaining permanent brain damage.
A 32-year-old woman was charged with wounding and with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, neglect and nine counts of assaulting a child — a 27-year-old man was also charged with neglect and injuring with intent.
The two will appear in Hastings District Court on Tuesday, June 8, facing the charges.
Detective sergeant Heath-Jones said to the press that if anyone else has information following the incident, it is recommended to call Police.
“If anyone has any further information about this incident, please call Police on 105 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111,” he said.
