Four charged after aggravated burglary at commercial address in New Plymouth

Four people have been arrested and charged following an aggravated burglary at a New Plymouth business in the early hours of last week.

Detective Sergeant Seamus Doyle said Police were called to a commercial premises on Devon Street East about 3am on Wednesday 28 January after a report of a burglary in progress.

Officers arrived quickly, but the alleged offenders had already fled the scene in a stolen vehicle.

A forensic examination was carried out and initial enquiries followed, leading to the arrest of three youths aged between 16 and 17, along with a 22 year old man.

All four appeared in New Plymouth Youth Court on Thursday 29 January. Two of the youths are due to reappear today, while the remaining youth and the man are scheduled to return to court on Monday 16 February. They face multiple charges including burglary with a weapon and unlawfully taking a motor vehicle.

Some of those arrested have also been charged over a series of aggravated burglaries in Whanganui and Tauranga during the past week.

Anyone who sees suspicious behaviour around homes or businesses is asked to report it to Police as soon as possible, providing as much detail as they can.
