Window smashed as teens caught during attempted service station burglary

Two teenagers have been caught in the act during an attempted burglary at a Three Kings service station, after a member of the public alerted police in the early hours of the morning.

Police were called just before 1.30am after reports that two people were smashing a window in an apparent attempt to force entry into the BP service station on Mount Eden Road in Three Kings. Officers arrived within minutes and found the pair leaving the scene.

Auckland City West Area Prevention Manager Inspector Wayne Kitcher said the incident highlighted the ongoing impact of burglary and property crime on local businesses, particularly during overnight hours when staff are most vulnerable.

He thanked the member of the public whose prompt call enabled police to intervene before further damage was done, and reiterated that this type of offending would not be tolerated.

Both offenders, aged 15, have been referred to Youth Aid Services. Police are urging anyone who witnesses suspicious or criminal behaviour to report it immediately by calling 111.
