Kiwibank outage hits app and online banking services

Kiwibank in a statement confirmed a live outage affected its mobile app and internet banking, leaving customers unable to log in or complete transactions on Wednesday morning.

The disruption hit during peak usage, with reports of failed logins and inaccessible accounts across the country.

Kiwibank issued a brief statement acknowledging the fault and confirming an investigation is underway.

“Some of our customers are having trouble accessing their Kiwibank App and internet banking. We’re currently looking into this and will keep you posted when we know more.”

One user wrote on the bank’s Facebook page: “This is so annoying. I rely on my app to bank daily. I can’t even book an Uber because I need to transfer money, and calling is just another hassle of waiting.”

Another user wrote: “Can you hurry up please? I need to get to my dentist appointment and transfer my funds from one account to another.”

The outage stalled routine banking activity, including transfers and balance checks, as customers were unable to access services throughout the day.

The bank said essential payment options remained live. Physical cards, ATMs, and contactless services including Apple Pay and Google Pay were still operating.

“Apologies for the disruption – we know it’s not ideal for your Wednesday morning,” the bank said.

Just before 3pm internet banking was back up and running.
