Westpac banking outage affects online customers

Customers of Westpac Bank were locked out of online banking services on Wednesday afternoon, prompting an urgent investigation by the bank’s technical teams.

A Facebook post from Westpac NZ at 2.42pm confirmed “some customers are experiencing difficulty accessing Westpac One online banking,” with the bank stating the issue was under active investigation.

The disruption affected access to Westpac One, the bank’s primary digital banking platform, leaving users unable to log in or manage accounts during the outage window.

A commenter on the bank’s Facebook page claimed the impact extended beyond online services, writing: “We are currently in a Westpac branch. Don’t bother making ya way to the banks the whole system is down and they cant do anything for you either.”

An updated post at 3.19pm confirmed the fault had been fixed.

Access to Westpac One had been restored, the bank said, alongside an apology to customers.

No cause for the outage has been disclosed.

The bank has not indicated how many customers were affected.
